Textile objects make us feel comfortable, cushion the seat, dim the glow of a bare light bulb. They can create spaces, whether as a divider that claims a room for itself or as clothing that creates its own climate and envelops not only human bodies. All the senses become aware of textile surfaces, foremost their touch, as well as visual appearance, smell and eventually the noise they make.
My interest lies in the softness and versatility of textiles. The materiality offers a multitude of states: it can be stiffened, layered, shaped and formed etc. A broad selection of possibilities to use and to design. UTO stands for Unique Textile Objects, from a textile painting to a cover up for a chair. The possibilities are endless and yet to be defined. The singularity touches the borders of being definable like those objects from outer space whose name mirrors the vastness of this brand’s horizon.

My name is Hanna Döring. I have a background as a dressmaker, which I almost forgot for some years. In this time I studied and worked mostly in the cultural field, focusing merely on film and film education. During the last years my desire to work with textures and with tactile processes reemerged and I slowly formed several ideas around designing and making textile objects. I ended up using what I trust: my senses followed by the urge to use my hands.
